released September 15, 2015, created by Toby Fox (and Temmie Chang as artist). a rpg game, with a turn-based combat system and bullet patterns. player choice and character dialogue are very integral to the game.
and, in early 2016 i found out about it.
funnily enough it was because of megalovania and spear of justice, i liked them a ton but i completely ignored the game for a few weeks before one of those complete walkthroughs popped up and well i absolutely loved it.
i was never interested in videogames, really. never had a console, and i always get really nervous to even enjoy anything that isn't like... hello kitty carnival or something like that. but i was completely enraptured with undertale, i still totally am.
it also was very me, i guess. i really liked the humour, always had a fascination for skeletons, and the whole befriending everyone aspect...
it came in an interesting period of my life too. i never went to anyone about it but i was deep in depression. it disturbs me to even think about it. but the important part was that i was lonely, not-feeling and just going through the motions. so, it was a nice distraction from that, something that made me get up from bed.
i was looking for every undertale related thing. analysis, fanart, comics, music, and... fanfic (that sure was pit from wich i never came back; there are some that changed the course of my life forever, but i'll probably make that it's own thing).
to put it bluntly, this game was the only reason i didn't kill myself then.
...
on a less sad)? note. it helped a lot with my art (yeah. it looked worse, you are lucky.) and my general worldview, i was very cynical so yeah a game where you don't have to kill anyone and make friends through literal determination is very wholesome for someone like me.
oh! it's also the only reason i learned english. that's just a fun fact (i'm sure you're all sobbing by the amount of typos that are here jsjs). it also means i started to actually engage with the bigger fandom in like start of 2018 probably. (that makes my obsession with specific things from those years even more niche, sigh.)
i started reading handplates practically on the beginning of the comic with dubs and now it's almost finished :,)
i saw lots of AU's too. i read Darker yet Darker and The Second Son Of Gaster, the aftertale comic, the error asks, the ___tale comic, really liked underfell, finaglic (tho i read that like two years later), horrortale, creativetale, that seraphim comic and lots of others (lots of things that died because of the tumblr ban,, if you know, you know), i never really liked underverse of glichtale tho i still watched it (i was desperate).
i have lots of cool recommendations of comics, off the top of my head: unexpected guests, homesick, deeperdown, soulfell. i love the orquestal covers of the soundtrack and "song from mt. ebott" in bandcamp are lovely. zines like "you are pretty bad at being evil" or newer ones like "To the bone". oh, and fanfics, so many fanfic, like 1800... but uh a great number of those are shippy so...
i got the collector's edition for pc in 2019, i think? i don't know, i cried like a baby. and i got to play the game!!! yeah, i didn't actually play the game until 2019. shut up, i refused to pirate it.
the whole box is my dearest possession, the music box/locket thing is (incomprehensible sounds) my absolute favorite music box of all the ones i own.
i'm dying to get more merch (official and made by fans jsjs), i want the nendoroid figures so bad, oh, definitely want to get the skelebros plushies.
in conclussion. undertale is game very very very important for me, and i love it so much. it still brings me the same joy as it did 7 years (!!!) ago.
